New Year’s travel in Japan may reach record levels

Spending on domestic travel to Japan during the New Year holidays will increase by 4.9 percent compared to last year and reach a record 43,000 yen (about $290). This increase is due to high living costs.

This year, many travelers will be able to take a longer vacation. Since the main dates fall on weekends (December 28, 29 and January 4-5), the average cost per person increased by 2,000 yen compared to the previous holiday period.
